Forex trading basics

Learn how currency pairs, bid and ask prices, sessions, order types, and leverage connect.

From quote to position

A currency pair expresses the value of a base currency in a quote currency. Buying and selling occur on different sides of the quote. Position volume and contract size turn price movement into profit or loss, while the account currency may introduce a further conversion.

Plan before the order

Identify the event or condition that would make a trade idea invalid, consider the size of a plausible adverse move, and check the session, spread, financing, and margin. A stop instruction can be useful for planning but cannot ensure a fill at its trigger price during a gap.
